Air washer

WinStal BV introduced the air washer in the Netherlands on the dairy farm and produces and installs the air washer.

For dairy cattle and dairy goats applies the same emisiearme shed principle.

There are three kinds of stable type in which the air washer can be used in dairy barns:

  • Open stable without cross ventilation
  • Open barn with cross ventilation
  • Basement extraction

How does a air washer work?
The Ammonia emission is limited by the ventilation air to be treated in a chemical air washer system. The washing section is made up of a column filling material which is continually wetted with an acidified washing liquor. The purified air then leaves the plant through a drip catcher. Upon passage of the ventilation air, the ammonia is picked up by the air washer system in the wash liquor, after which the cleaned ventilating air is leaving the system. By adding sulfuric acid to the washing liquid, the ammonia is bound as ammonium sulphate, after which this material is discharged with the blowdown water.
